Data Shapers
Data Shapers are Flexcurves that can be applied to each modulation inlet in order to transform the incoming modulation value before it is applied to the modulation target.
Flexion includes four Data Shapers that are located in the Creator View at the Processors section under the "Data Shapers" tab.
Each Data Shaper can be modulated in order to change its own shape, which again has an effect on the modulation sources that are sent through the respective Data Shaper. Data Shapers can also be used as inputs in the context of Partial Rules.
By applying Data Shapers to modulation inlets it is possible multiply the "flavors" of modulation sources in order to create differing but related results. For example, in some situations, it might be beneficial to skew the signal of a source in order for it to be biased towards a certain spectrum of its output range. In other situations, it might be better to use an inverted version of the source. This, and much more, is possible by transforming the source's signal via Data Shapers at selected inlets. When one considers that even the shape of the Data Shapers can be modulated over time, this makes for very interesting modulation possibilities.
Of course, another use case of Data Shapers would be the classic requirement of surgical adjustment of key-scaling for the note-on midi event.
In order to transform the signal of a modulation source through a Data Shaper, just select the respective Data Shaper number in the Modulation Configurator popup.
